Second Quarter Public Company Acquisition Review

Most public companies have recently filed their quarterly report Form 10-Q with rge Securities and Exchange Commission.  Here are some reports from companies active in the Green Industry:

The Davey Tree Expert Company reported spending a whopping $17.73 million for business purchases during the first six months of 2008 compared to $4.5 million in the same period of 2007.

The Scott’s-Miracle Gro Company reported NO acquisition activity in its Scott’s Lawn Service division during the nine months ended June 28, 2008, compared to $6.5 million in the same period of the prior year.

Sunair Services, Inc., parent of Middleton Pest Control in Florida, reported acquisitions totalling $1.0 million during the nine months ended June 30, 2008 compared to $2.6 million in the nine months ended June 30, 2007.  All of the acquisition activity for fiscal 2008 took place before December 31, 2007, so they have had no acquisition activity during the six motnhs ended June 30, 2008.

The ServiceMaster Company reported $10.0 in business acquisitions in its TruGreen LawnCare and Terminix segments during the six months ended June 30, 2008 compared to $25.2 million in the same period last year.  On July 24, 2007, ServiceMaster itself was acquired by affiliates of private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.

Rollins, Inc., parent company of Orkin, reported acquisitions totalling $135.8 million for the six months ended June 30, 2008 compared to $4.3 million in the same period of 2007.  The large figure for 2008 consists primarily of the acquisition of Home Team Pest Defense from Centex.
